How To Replace a Dryer Leveling Foot

How To Replace a Dryer Leveling Foot

Anytime you work on an appliance, make sure it’s unplugged or the circuit breakers are off so there’s no chance of electrocution. Changing out the dryer leveling foot is going to be a very easy repair and it will only take a few minutes to explain how to do it. In order to change a foot, you have to tilt the machine back or lay it on its back. If it’s a front foot, you can probably do it just by tilting it. But if it’s the rear one, you may have to pull the dryer out and lay a towel down so you can lay the dryer on its back. To do that, you may have to unplug the power cord. And if it’s a gas dryer, shut off the gas and disconnect the gas line. Once you have that all done, we can lay our towel on the ground. Once you have the dryer pulled out, you can put the towel down on the floor to protect it so you don’t scratch it. And then if you need some help, have somebody grab it and help you tilt the driver back onto its back.

Whether you’re changing the front foot or the back foot, it doesn’t matter they’re all the same. They just unscrew. If yours is broken or missing you’re just going to have a hole there where the foot was. So in order to get the old one out, all we have to do is unscrew it and it’s out. If you already have a new foot, great. To put the new levelling foot in all we have to do is stick in the hole and screw it down. You want to try to screw it in to about the same length as the other ones are out. Once you lift the dryer up you may have to reach underneath with a wrench and adjust them so it sits level. Now that we have the new foot installed come back behind the dryer and lift it up.

Now that we have the dryer back on its feet, we can give it a shake, make sure that it’s sitting level. If it’s not, we’ll have to go down and adjust the hex on the foot. If your foot needs to be adjusted, you can get an open end wrench that fits over the foot. You have to get down on the floor and turn this while it’s in the dryer. To do this a pry bar is very helpful. Pry bars are incredibly handy. They can be used for a wide range of both automotive and around the home repairs and construction projects. They can be used for scraping, for lifting tile, for leveling windows and doors when newly installed, and a whole range of other applications. Pry bars are made by numerous companies such as Tekton, Stanley, Snap On, Mayhew, ANB, Performance Tool, Gear Wrench, and Tech Team https://techteamproducts.com/. The one we like the best is Tech Teams model 707 5pc. Pry Bar Set  https://www.amazon.com/Mechanics-Prybars-Chisel-Angled-Rolling-Head/dp/B07CSBZ4ZM/ref=sr_1_11?s=power-hand-tools&ie=UTF8&qid=1540409708&sr=1-11&keywords=pry+bar+set as it has 5 different sizes, each one made from high tensile heat treated carbon steel with a comfortable and functional plastic grip. So it raises or lowers the dryer. We’re done repairing the appliance. Before we can plug it back in and take it for a test spin, we should reconnect the vent, or better yet, replace the flex tubing and fasten it in place with new clamps. Using the voice command setting on your Android phone you could call Hey Siri or Hey Google find dryer vent clamps to find a good place to buy the clamps. You can purchase new vent pipe from Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Menards. You will also need 3m foil tape and either Owens Corning or GE Silicone Sealant. Since many times you are working in a tight spot and can only get one hand on the clamp, the easiest and best clamps to use are clamps that use a key style toggle that can be turned and tightened with one hand. There are several brands of this type of clamp: Vivosun, Hilitchi, Lokman, Hydrofarm, Breeze Power, Ideal, Anpro, U Xcell, Rontiex, Lasko, Dundas Jafine, Deflect-O, iPower, Kelaro, Universal, Cambridge, Qualihome, Big Horn, and Tech Team Products. I chose to use Tech Team Products # 703 key drive, 4 inch stainless steel, worm gear drive clamps https://www.amazon.com/Band-Style-Key-Style-Stainless-Collection-Clothes/dp/B079RSJCJN/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1537879464&sr=8-6&keywords=dryer+vent+clamp as they have an excellent rating, are made to exacting standards, and are extremely easy to use. The Tech Team clamps use a key style device rather than a Phillips style screw to tighten the clamp. This allows you to use only one hand to tighten the clamp. Thanks for joining us
